A Longtime Pioneer in Online Publishing

by admin on Apr.05, 2012, under medical

The features users enjoy today far outstrip those of 17 years ago. Even with the considerable enhancements we’ve made to Scitation, especially in the past year, and the ongoing investment we will be making in the future to keep AIP content available and useful on the platforms that researchers look to first, we’re holding our increase to 5% on our base prices for online access to AIP journals in 2012. Over the years, we’ve worked closely with the library community to maintain low annual price increases—raising rates just 3% in each of the last two years, for example—and we remain sensitive to both the economic pressures facing libraries as well as those same pressures facing society publishers. Some of those pressures include the continuing reduction in print subscriptions in favor of online, a dynamic that has impacted AIP’s ability to provide a print subscription option. Given this fact, we are also further adjusting our print price upward to reflect this shift in the market. We are confident, though, that AIP will still continue to offer exceptional value compared to other physics publishers, based on price-per-article metrics, a fact evidenced by JournalPrices.com (2010), which reported the average price per article of AIP’s core titles at just $1.79—significantly lower than the $8.00–$15.00 per article prices reported for other publishers of physics content.

by admin on Mar.05, 2012, under Uncategorized

Medical Physics is pleased to publish online only a series of papers that were presented at The First International Meeting on Image Formation in X-ray Computed Tomography, June 6-9, 2010, Salt Lake City, Utah.  This was a very successful international meeting that was conceived and organized by Frederic Noo, Ph.D.  Papers that were accepted for publication through the peer review process have been posted here. These papers  are not available in a print version, although authors can download the papers from the web site.  This series of papers represents many aspects of the state-of-the-art science of x-ray computed tomography and  is a valuable contribution to the state of knowledge in the science of computed tomography.

Plagiarism is defined as “the appropriation or imitation of the language, ideas, and thoughts of another author, and representation of them as one’s original work.” (The Random House Dictionary of the English Language (unabridged)). Plagiarism is a serious breach of ethics that undermines the authenticity of Medical Physics. Plagiarism violates the literary rights of the original author(s) and the property rights of a copyright holder. A person guilty of plagiarism may be subject to legal action instituted by these individuals. Upon receipt of a written allegation of plagiarism, the Editor of Medical Physics shall examine the original material and the publication alleged to constitute plagiarism. If the evidence suggests that plagiarism has not occurred, the Editor shall so notify the accuser and no further action shall be taken. If the evidence suggests that plagiarism may have occurred, the editor will contact by certified letter the accused author(s), the author(s) whose work may have been plagiarized, and the copyright holder of the original material if different from the author(s). Included in the letter shall be the alleged plagiarizing language, together with a copy of the original and suspected work. If all parties agree that plagiarism (whether intentional or unintentional) has occurred, a written letter of apology shall be sent promptly by the offending author(s) to the editor and to the author(s) and copyright holder whose work has been plagiarized.

Please respond promptly to a request to serve as a referee

by admin on Oct.26, 2011, under medical

Please respond promptly to a request to serve as a referee. Reviews must be completed as quickly as possible, and no later than 2 weeks from the date of invitation. If you are unable to meet this requirement, please decline the invitation to review at your earliest opportunity so a replacement referee can be identified.

Medical Physics Letters are brief manuscripts that have special requirements for referees. Medical Physics Letters are short articles (3 printed journal pages or less) on a scientific or clinical topic of overriding importance to medical physicists. Letters are to be reviewed within 5 business days of receipt, and one of only three recommendations should be made: Accept, Accept with Minor Revisions, or Reject. A manuscript that is not accepted as a Medical Physics Letter may be expanded into a Research Paper and resubmitted.

All reviews are completed electronically by clicking on the link which is also where the article to be reviewed may be accessed. The review process allows you to paste in a word document of your review, if you prefer to develop the review off-line. The review process is freeform, but you should include in your evaluation the accuracy, originality and completeness of the science, the clarity and succinctness of the writing, the quality and necessity of all illustrations and tables, the comprehensiveness of the literature review, the format of the paper and references, the relevance of the title and abstract, the appropriateness of the subject material to the journal, and any other issues you feel are important.
